The constructor and designer Jean Prouvé produced his designs in his own factory in Nancy. This gave him the opportunity to easily implement customer requests and changes to the products. Accordingly, many variants of Prouvé's most successful designs have emerged over the course of time. This also applies to the Standard chair, which was produced in different versions for various furnishing projects. In one of these versions, the Standard SR from Vitra (siège rembourré), the seat and backrest are upholstered. The standard SR reflects the static loads of use in its construction in the manner typical of Prouvé: while slim steel tubes are sufficient for the front legs, which are less stressed, the rear legs of the chair are designed as voluminous hollow bodies.
